August Day 9: Beauty in something considered ugly
Smoking of any kind these days is considered ugly or vile by many. And some don't feel that way at all. However, no matter which side you stand on, you have to agree this pipe is beautiful. It's graceful curves of loving craftsmanship and the grain as well as the color of the wood, are a thing of beauty for sure. The same can be said for the wine and its glass in the background.

August, day 5: Music
Ice cream trucks are a rare thing these days. But, every now and then, my kids find one. It is never in our small town. Instead, it's always in Charlotte of all places!

August Day 3: Grace
They're a little odd and somewhat creepy; especially when they turn their head to look at you. Yikes! They are very unusual to say the least, but the praying mantis is one of the most graceful creatures I've ever seen. They are so poised, alert and usually move slowly and gracefully so they blend into the surrounding. They do a great job. I nearly missed seeing this guy. However, when food is close by or they need to make a quick get-away, they become lightning fast! Even then they are graceful.
Yes, he turned his little head to watch me! It still makes me shiver! |
August: Day 2... again
I couldn't stop with the last post. I have too many flower pictures to let it go. :)
These are a few of my favorites, however, I have the same problem with bugs, stars, the moon and clouds. You have been warned for future challenge days. Expect an overload because I try to restrain myself now as it is!

July 31, 2011--the storm
I have always been intrigued by storms and clouds. You cannot fathom the amount of cloud pictures I have. It is obscene. So when this whopper of a storm blew upon us rather quickly, you better believe I was camera ready! My husband and I had just dropped off our kids at Grandma's and were heading home a mile away. I'm still a little fuzzy on the details because it all happened so fast. It began raining. Then it began raining sideway and hard.
We were then sitting in the van waiting for it to slow down so we could run inside when our van lifted up and moved about 3-4 inches. That's when we ran. I hit our front porch with a rather hard thud banging my elbow on the concrete. Hard. It still hurts. Anyway, Scott, my hero hubby, wrestled our front door open as our wrought iron porch furniture blew off the porch. As we race inside, we hear several audible cracks we assumed were thunder. It turns out it wasn't thunder. It was 4 trees. Two in the next-door neighbors yard (one landed on the roof), one of our across-the-street neighbors enormous pecan trees and one of our apple trees.
I cannot remember being so scared. Here is what we saw during and then after our long one mile journey. I'm sure tomorrow will bring more photos.
